Welcome to Mao Bar

The MAO BAR has been operating in Palmerston North for over five years now and it's goal was to achieve the fusion of oriental and western cultures, based on a philosophy that cuisine has evolved as populations have changed.

At its core is the desire to portray the strength of image created during the communist revolution in China under Chairman Mao, as distinct from the message behind the images and with no political intent.

The many images of Mao have become absorbed into popular culture in the same way as Fidel Castro and Ché Guevara have as icons of the Cuban revolution. MAO BAR seeks to expand this through a theme that encompasses eating, drinking and style.
